M2¢ #8: Christy Marx got screwed! Jem and the Holograms movie!

My 2¢ is a series were I discuss various things that comes to mind.
As fair warning this is 100% my opinion.

Hasbro finally produces a movie for the Jem and the Holograms toy-line, and Christy Marx is not part of it. Christy Marx was a writer for many animated TV shows like  G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Bucky O' Hare. Recently films based on toy-lines have been really popular. Knowing this, Christy Marx expresses her desire for a Jem and the Holograms revival. Hasbro PR announced that the film would be directed by Jon M. Chu who was the director for G.I. Joe Retaliation. Marx's hope was shattered, as she was already sitting on a treatment for Jem and the Holograms, which she said would have updated many expects of the show. Disappointed Marx's takes to twitter expressing her feelings on Jem and the Holograms. She also notices that the film will be produced, directed, and written by men. here's what she had to say “I see two male producers, a male director and a male writer. Where is the female voice? Where is the female perspective? Where are the women?” more producers signed on since Marx's post making a total of six producers. Two including Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, and the Purge) and Scooter Braun the talent manager for Justin Bieber. Marx wrote “Now, as far as not bringing me on-board, that’s the reality of franchise IPs, It’s their property, they can do whatever they want with it, and they have no obligations whatsoever to me. Was it a smart decision? You decide.” All things aside she had some positive things to say about Chu. She says “He treated me with honesty and respect. He is sincere, passionate, and filled with a desire to make the best Jem movie he can make. He wants to reinvent Jem for a current audience. His take is somewhat different from the approach I wanted to take, but that just means it’s different, not that there’s anything wrong with it. I urge everyone to judge the merits of his work on the result. I hope [Chu] delivers us an excellent, truly outrageous movie.” Chu had contacted Christy as soon as Harbro inked the deal.
What's my opinion on this well I think it's kinda screwed up. I know the company doesn't have to cater to her, but at the same time it's weird how they wouldn't have her on the team as a consultant. Also the company's choice of producers and directors is questionable. Jem and the Hologram's is a toy-line made for girls. So my question is, why would they have all men work on the movie? Maybe they're trying to get the boys into MLP into another toy-line for girls. My guess here is as good as yours. On a side note I don't like the title of the article this is what happens when men work on Jem and the Holograms, as if it's the mans fault Darryn King. What do you all think please comment in the comments section give me a +1 on Google+ and share on Twitter if you like this post. Also if you want to read the article for yourself click here. Until next time my internet Brothas and Sistas. Peace, love, hair-grease.
